<abstract>The US General Land Office (GLO) survey of the Tampa Bay watershed represents one of the earliest systematic recordings of land cover conditions. This dataset is composed of 132 geo-referenced and clipped Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Township plats from land surveys completed during the 19th century. The majority (86%) of survey plats were completed during the years 1845-1855, including most plats of mainland areas. Most of the remaining survey plats were completed between1876-1879.</abstract>
<purpose>The Florida Center for Community Design and Research (FCCDR) regularly uses published data and information from numerous sources to support and develop research projects.</purpose>
<supplinf>This data set is composed of 132 survey plats of the Greater Tampa Region supplied by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM ; www.glorecords.blm.gov) as MrSID format scanned images. The plats were geo-referenced at a scale of 1:8000. Each plat utilized approximately 16 control points and were transformed using a 2nd order polynomial level. The average RMS of the geo-referenced plats was 23 meters. Geo-referenced images were clipped to the exterior Township boundary lines from the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) Public Land Survey Section data set(PLSS; http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/data/gis/). The image file formats are available as individual .tif images, an ArcGIS 9.3 file geo-database raster catalog, and a single .tif mosaic. This metadata applies to the &lt;individual .tif image&gt; dataset.</supplinf>

Visual inspection of the GLO Plats at a scale of 1:8,000 was used to create the control points when Geo-referencing and to verify the positional placement of each plat map. The Township, Range and Section corners containing within the PLSS dataset was used as a means to reference the plat maps. The positional accuracy of the geo-referenced maps appeared reasonable considering the limited spatial accuracy of the 19th century maps (i.e. one-mile distances between section lines).
