This dataset contains hard bottom polygons for the Manatee River. Polygons were drawn by Damon Moore of Oyster River Ecology on 9.27.2023. Aerial interpretation was performed using a combination of aerial images from google earth and Manatee County. The Manatee County 2022 Aerial Image was most useful. Prior to creating the polygons, a portion of the area was field verified via transect from approximately 27.510456°,-82.545641° to 27.509656°,-82.546078° on 9/25/2023. Along this transect biologists with Manatee County, Oyster River Ecology, and Cummins Cederburg noted patches of exposed lime rock, live oysters growing on lime rock, and several unidentified sponges within the areas identified by polygons on the transect line. An assumption is being made that aerial signature that corresponds with hardbottom observations along the transect is representative of other nearby areas of river bottom with the same aerial signature. Along the surveyed transect AND within the polygons live oyster cover was estimated by Damon Moore at 30% to 40% live oysters in tightly packed clumps on exposed limestone. Areas of bare exposed lime rock were observed as well as lime rock under a 1" to 6" layer of mucky sediments as tested with a soil probe. The seagrass cover was less than 1% total cover consisting of scattered Halodule wrightii and Halophila engelmannii. Additional field verification is recommended.

[ "TampaBayHMPU"
}
